Lumi + OBS Studio

A teleprompter for OBS Studio that stays out of your capture

OBS records only the sources you add to a scene. Lumi's prompter sits at your camera line and scrolls with your voice — outside those sources — so you read naturally while your viewers never see the script.

Why the script stays private in OBS

OBS Studio is source-based: it captures exactly what you tell it to — a Video Capture Device (your camera), a Window Capture, a Game Capture, or a Browser source. Each one pulls only its own feed. A prompter overlay on your screen isn't any of those, so it simply isn't in the output.

That's the difference from a full-screen recorder: as long as you build your scene from camera and window sources (not a whole-monitor Display Capture), Lumi's script is invisible to your audience by design. If you do need Display Capture, put the prompter on a second monitor and the same holds.

What you get streaming or recording with OBS

  • Script off the stream. OBS grabs your camera and windows, not your prompter, so viewers only see you.
  • FlowPrompt follows your voice. Live delivery means you can't babysit a scroll speed — the script keeps your pace and pauses when you do.
  • No plugin, no fiddly setup. Lumi runs beside OBS. Nothing to install into OBS, nothing that can accidentally capture your notes.
  • Works for any destination. Twitch, YouTube Live, or a local recording — OBS handles output; Lumi handles the reading.

Set it up with OBS in four steps

  1. 1

Open Lumi and load your script

Start Lumi's prompter and paste your script or bullets. Position it near your webcam at the top of the screen.

  2. 2

Build your OBS scene from camera and window sources

Add your camera as a Video Capture Device and any windows you need. Avoid full-monitor Display Capture if the prompter is on the same screen.

  3. 3

    Turn on voice-following

Enable FlowPrompt so the script scrolls with your voice while you go live — no reaching for a scroll control mid-stream.

  4. 4

    Go live and read naturally

Start your OBS stream or recording and talk. Your camera source shows you; the script stays on your screen, off the feed.

Frequently asked questions

Will my viewers see the teleprompter in OBS?+
Not if you capture the right way. OBS records only the sources you add to a scene — your camera (Video Capture Device), a Window Capture, a Game Capture, or a Browser source. A prompter overlay isn't part of any of those feeds, so it stays off your stream. The one exception is full Display Capture of the monitor showing the overlay — in that case, keep the prompter on a second monitor or switch to a camera/window source.
How do I set up Lumi with OBS Studio?+
Run Lumi's prompter on your screen near your webcam, then build your OBS scene from your camera and window sources as usual. Read from Lumi while OBS captures the camera. Because OBS only grabs the sources you chose, your script isn't in the recording or stream.
Does the script scroll on its own while I stream?+
Yes. Lumi's FlowPrompt follows your voice and scrolls at your pace, pausing when you pause — which matters live, where you can't stop to nudge a scroll wheel. No fixed speed to chase mid-stream.
Do I need a plugin or does it capture into OBS?+
No plugin needed. Lumi is a separate prompter running alongside OBS, not an OBS source. That's exactly why your script stays private — it never enters OBS as a captured source unless you deliberately do a full-display capture.
Does this work for Twitch, YouTube Live, and recordings?+
Yes. OBS handles the streaming or recording to Twitch, YouTube, or a local file the same way; Lumi just keeps your script at the camera line while you talk. The prompter is independent of where OBS sends the output.
What does Lumi cost?+
Lumi is $9/month or $27 once. It runs on macOS and Windows, and the same purchase covers the web version.
